Description:
The artwork is a symbolic Mandala composed of both biotic and synthetic elements. The living organisms represent the sentient lifeforms of our planet and the plastic objects are markers of the Anthropocene, expressing the plastic zeitgeist of our time.

The piece 'deify' these tiny organisms, venerated as sentient beings in a microcosm to remind us of our forgotten biological kinship and interconnectedness with other life forms.

There are two oxygen generating life forces on our planet, the Forest and the Ocean.
Some of the largest and the tiniest organisms perform life sustaining miracles everyday. For millions of years mycelium nourishes the trees while phytoplankton in the ocean produces oxygen and fixed carbon - as I breathe, I thank the ocean, and the forest and the sun, for without light, life cannot sustain.

The Mandala is a spiritual and ritual symbol used by Asian cultures as an aid to meditation. It is a representation of the cosmos, an imaginary palace, it is often venerated as a portal toward an inner journey of transformation to achieve awareness and potential in themselves. It all starts with awareness of breathing, often depicting a deity in the center.

Description:
The Canary Song pays homage to Miners' Canaries.

Canary birds were used to detect low oxygen levels and dangerous gases in mines.

This assemblage depicts a combat between a soldier and an elephant amongst an industrial landscape. The seemingly childlike and innocent diorama displays how we observe, utilise and vandalise our environment.

Eternal Spring

Description:
Plastic gets to the ocean through over 1000 rivers.

The piece consists of an assemblage from Plasticglomerates, lightbulb, toy wheel and drift plastics. Inspired by the Chinese characters written on a piece of drift plastic ("水汽泉") in English: Water, Gas, Spring. The puzzling words evoke a metaphor of an artificial spring spewing micro plastic waterfalls.
We discovered much later it was part of a plastic crate for soft drinks manufactured in Macau during the 50s.
Plastiglomerate is a new type of materials fused with organic matter and plastic.
It resembles volcanic rock, except that it is plastic.

Description:
The ocean dreams of the Sun.
Where communication exists in the fields of vibration.
Sea of waves oscillating from light, to sound, touching all sentient and the living.

IYVONE KHOO

Iyvone Khoo (born in Singapore) lives and works in London, UK. Her diverse media include glass, video, light, bioluminescence and invertebrates.

Khoo confronts the peril of how we set ourselves apart from nature as if it is different from us. Her practice explores the ephemeral transitory of the human condition within nature as she observes the phenomenon present in the microcosm and the macro cosmos.

In her work, it aims to facilitate a hypothetical conversation between man and nature.

Situated in the overlap and contrast between ideas of nature and the artificial, Khoo speculates interspecies communication, environmental consciousness through her practice.

She is known for her work that explores the aesthetics and artistry of bioluminescent. As a MEAD Fellow, she collaborates with scientists from Scripps Institution of Oceanography filming living bioluminescent phytoplankton.

Iyvone has exhibited in the UK, USA and internationally. Her works are collected in private collections.
