ONBD is excited to present Anthropocene, by artist Ai Makita. Ai is known for her abstract landscapes which represents human ‘biological forms', but reimagined through the imagery of artificial objects such as metal and plastic. She creates layers of painted and digital images that are piled on top of each other, combining digital and analog methods to express her view of the human world. Whether viewed on a PC screen or in a painting, their forms are identical, and yet the two mediums offer completely contrasting experience to the viewer.

Series
Series
.
Anthropocene
is a groundbreaking series in which Ai explores a ‘dynamic' painting process where two paintings were fused to create a new artwork.
.
The initial two pieces, "Cell" and "Shadow" were first created digitally in 2014, and later made into physical paintings that same year. "Cell" represents a liquid body substance, and "Shadow" represents the dim shape of a human before birth.
.
Last year, Ai created three new pieces based on these initial works: A digital painting that merged the two images into a new hybrid work, a physical painting based on the same image, and a video piece where she collaborated with an animation team to visualize the ‘fusing' of Cell and Shadow to create Anthropocene.
